Clutter

Make sure your home is as clutter free as possible. Remove fridge magnets from the fridge, old magazines, books on top of Kitchen cabinets, shoe racks and umbrella holders. Make sure it is not laundry day and if you do have washing to do, you could put it in a robe or even take it out of the house while the home open in progress. Potential Purchasers will want to look through the home, so bear in mind, they may open linen cupboards and robes to judge the sizes.

Furniture

It is a good idea look at your furniture. Are some of the pieces too large for the room? or are they a bit worn? Less is sometimes more, if the room is taken over by large couches or chairs, it might be a good idea to remove them from the room.

Repairs

That room that you did not get around to painting or the shelves you have not had time to fix, well now is the time. You might be able to live with that blue wall, but it could mean the difference between a sale or not.

Gardens

If your home has a garden, it is a good idea to have this neat and tidy also. Make sure the lawn is mowed and edged, garden beds are healthy and weed free. Any over grown plants and shrubs are trimmed back. Another handy tip, is to lay some fresh mulch through the garden beds. It gives the garden a fresh and healthy feel and a nice contrast against the lawn. Also make sure the shed or garage are neat and tidy and that the patio and paving are swept.

Pets

Make sure your home is free from pet hair and that there is no pet smell in the home. Remove your dog or cat bowl temporarily, aswell as any pet toys and bed.

Personal items

Any personal items should be locked away safely or taken with you, in case they go missing. Every care is taken to avoid this, however it is better to be safe.

Clean, clean, clean!

Make sure your home is clean throughout. That includes floors being sweep or vacuumed. Making sure there are no cobwebs in hard to reach places. Clean all the windows and window tracks, aswell as inside cupboards and drawers, Ovens and hobs. Be mindful that bathroom tiles, aswell as shower screens and mirrors are cleaned also.

And finally…

A fresh vase of flowers on a coffee table or dining table is a great first impression in any home, aswell as a nice temperature. If you know it is going to be a hot day, make sure to have the air conditioning on at least 30 minutes before the home open, so the home is nice and cool. The same applies to a cold day. A warm, cosy home is very inviting.
